Our Shop
Over 10 Years ago I was looking for a name for my new shop on Main Street. Inspiration came just as I looked through the window of the shop, right outside was one of Cockermouth’s Lime trees, planted as an avenue along both sides of Main Street to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.
I carried out some research and found that the Anglo Saxon name for Lime was Linden. It wasn’t many months before that I had closed my workshop alongside the River Cocker where I had designed and made puppets for over 5 years; I still have customers who remember ‘Pipkin Puppets’ with affection. My new venture started in a small way by trying gift ideas new to Cockermouth, until I gained experience and knowledge of retailing.
Thirteen years on, and The Linden Tree is still on Main Street and still trading with flair and individuality. It has a loyal following and is re visited every year by the many holiday makers who have discovered this lovely part of West Cumbria.
Over the last few years, I have introduced many new and exciting collections of fashion jewellery and accessories. These being Bohm, an American company recently selling in the UK; Zsiska, a Dutch Designer creating large statement pieces in bright highly polished resins and Pilgrim, to name but a few. Just recently we have introduced a new collection from Austria, Leonardi Arte, which is doing very well in the shop. I do focus on sourcing ethically traded jewellery and gifts where possible. One of my own favourites is Artisan Life, from South America, producing stunning designs from Tagua, a nut from a Palm species, as well as Kazuri, ceramic beads made in Kenya, who have been using Fair Trade principles for over twenty five years.
The Linden Tree also stocks Orkney designer Sheila Fleet’s fabulous handmade Sterling Silver enamelled pieces which are especially popular at Christmas time.
So whether you are looking for an individual piece of jewellery to match an outfit, or just enjoy browsing, we will be happy to help customers match and select from our many ranges in our newly refurbished shop following the flooding of Cockermouth in 2009.
